Lore

Lore Excerpt:
His appearance is a demon itself from an old book.

Dark black skin, fire covering his body. A large horn protruding from his head.

It can only be said that he is the manifestation of the devil read in ancient myths.

That does not mean he resembles the devil simply by appearance.

Mondegreen instantly boils his opponent's blood and melts bones with horrible flames like nightmares.

Think it would be safe to surrender without hostility?

Best not think it would be a good idea to listen to his words of fire that spew from his mouth.

As soon as you hear his voice, you will be unable to hear anything that follows.[1]

History

Little is known about Mondegreen other than he's a member of the Kashipa who not only has the appearance of a demon from ancient myth, but possesses fire magic that's considered so nightmarish, he can boil his enemies' blood and melts their bones. He also can use the Abyss to absorb souls as a specialty to replenish his powers.

Mondegreen is sent out to Dark City by Ricardo tasked with not only capturing the Adventurer who's making their way through the Kashipa's stronghold in Harlem, but to clean out the city that's full of runaway slaves who are hiding. He is first seen when Tagor, calling him "Monde", asks him for more time to seek out the Adventurer that was behind a pile of bones listening in on their conversation. Although he doesn't say anything, Mondegreen leaves to resume his task.

With the city now being engulfed in flames, the Adventurer continues their journey freeing slaves while battling off various Kashipa members along the way. They first encounter Mondegreen using a flame explosion to kill some slaves and absorbs their souls as he fights the Adventurer, only to lose. Despite this loss, Mondegreen cruelly absorbs more souls and runs away.

Now being accompanied by Tagor, the Adventurer follows the fleeing Mondegreen. When the duo finally reach him, he captures them both only to have Pai attack him from behind as he's fought a second time and despite absorbing souls from his servants, he still loses. Unable to use his powers, Mondegreen quickly dashes over to Tagor out of desperation to absorb her soul, but she retaliates by using her powers, killing him for good.

Appearances

Trivia

  • Mondegreen is a mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase as a result of near-homophony, in a way that gives it a new meaning.
  • His design seems to be inspired by Enja from Samurai Shodown V who is also a demon combatant that controls flames.
