Talk:The Great Skill Metastasis Project
Final Project Phase Discussion
Well there's no physical reason you guys can't start editing now so might as well have this discussion now. You guys can even jump in on the format updating and do it right the first time if it's not done already (unlike me who can't since I play like 3 classes). When updating the skill pages, let's try to make it so that we fill them in as much as possible. Here's some main points that should be addressed. --SirKerfluffles (talk) 10:25, 9 August 2015 (PDT)
- 1. So in the Description section, at the minimum could we get the game's description of the move in there (even if they sometimes aren't that great).
- 2. Double check all the information already on the page. Delete/Fill in the blanks as necessary.
- Related: In most formatting updates I did, since a majority of the pages are missing something or another anyways I was lazy and left blank attributes and stuff in there from the template (even on some tp pages where I know they don't make sense).
- From what I've seen, next to none of the pages have arena based info, so let's try and get that in there.
- 3. How do we want to handle the videos section? Like for TP skills, there COULD be a video of the move, but really it's only make sense if it was a comparison video of the move with vs. w/o the TP buff, and it's not really that necessary. Do we just want to leave them as "no video", or just link the video of the move again, or what?
- 4. Double check that all of the skills from the class are there, spelled correctly, and have the proper image.
- There may also still be some extra skills lying around. I've seen some esp. for Monk and Exorcist at the minimum when I was mass image uploading.
- Example: Shield Stark Upgrade should be Stark Shield Upgrade
- Example: shows up as the image that shows up the Avenger's Thunder Mine skill instead of File:AV4.png.
- 5. Side note: Arrol has brought up that it'd be nice if we could delete the unused attributes from the skill tables (ex: erase "Tab3" if the move is not toggleable, "Video2" and "NameTab2" if there's no other video. What do you guys think of this? Just after updates seem done, go in and remove the unused attributes?
- 6. Should we have designated class executives, people who would maybe be in charge of final information checking and could be in charge of removing the Missing Info tag or something.
- 7. EDIT: Also, I still don't think we've reached a definite conclusion on how we're handling Male/Female fighter skill pages. It really sounds like it's up to discussion/collaboration on deciding how similar the skills are to each other on each case. Like for M/F gunners we do the tabs approach (ex: Fastest Gun) since they're not so different (from what I heard). And if the fighter skills function like that then use tabs, but otherwise make 2 separate pages like Venom Mine?
- 3. Well, isn't all passive skills do not have videos? How is TP skills different? I might be able to "hide" videos section just for Passive and/or TP skills in the template.
- 5. I have no preference. I'm just lazy to type in the unused attributes even if it's just copying and pasting.
- 6. That is going to be hard since whoever has played the class will know if Missing Info tags should be removed or not.
- 7. The "not reaching to a definite conclusion" is true. From what I know, we were planning to separate the Fighter skills into two pages, due to differences in description, skill growth, and notes. However, a solution could be we use Tabs in all the sections and we can stick to one page for simplicity. I'm not sure how the prerequisite skills and/or commands sections are going to work however. --Dfoplayer (talk) 11:41, 9 August 2015 (PDT)
- 3. Some passives and TP skills could use a video while others don't really need them. Passives that have a real observable effect like Spiritual Sacrifice or Loyal Servant should get videos, especially if they already have one in game. TP skills that just increase the damage of a skill or something similar don't need a video but for ones like Shadow Binding Upgrade or Hired Summon: Hellflower Aukuso Upgrade that have a pretty big change to the way the skill works should get a video.
- 5. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Is there an example page that has this issue?
- --Lokd (talk) 14:48, 9 August 2015 (PDT)
- Well now I see the two video tabs but I don't see how it's that big of a problem. It's not exactly in the way or anything.--Lokd (talk) 15:10, 9 August 2015 (PDT)
- Yeah not sure exactly why it's an issue for him. I'm guessing it just for having a cleaner page behind the scenes. Though I have some reasons to prefer to just leave the blank things in, I'm fine with whatever for the final product. --SirKerfluffles (talk) 15:28, 9 August 2015 (PDT)

The All-in-One Patch this coming January | 2 | 22:32, 24 December 2015 |
Stuff in Attributes; Damage Type Indication | 6 | 20:15, 8 September 2015 |
Hey fellow Wiki-ers. If you guys don't know, DFOG will be receiving a HUGE patch this coming January (Probably after Jan. 19, 2016). Link The link provided only lists a few of the mentioned changes. Other Link We will be receiving more 2nd Awakenings, dungeon revamps, etc. Be prepared. A lot is going to change and a lot of pages are going to be out of date, particularly skill pages.
I think what we need now is a plan to prepare for this event. Do you guys have any suggestions?
So on some pages we currently have, things like SP cost per level and CD are listed within the skill table itself, such as with High Kick. Others have them listed in the attributes section Spirit Summon: Flame Hulk. Is there a certain way we want to be doing it?
Also, I was thinking it could be a good idea to represent the type of damage the skills do in some way (if applicable). We could include what type of damage the skill does (Physical/Magical/Neutral?/Elemental Type?) in the Attributes section (describing multiple damage cases when necessary of course). Another option would be that we could color code the damage types. In this second case, ex: Shock Wave. We could reduce the table headings to just "Sword Swing's Attack Strength", "Shockwave Multihit's Attack Strength", and the values themselves could be colored for physical/magical. It could get messy for all the elemental types though. We'd have to think up of a color chart to represent everything. And make a key.
Edit: Trying out the "Add Topic" button. Didn't know it would do this.
Well, this new threads should be for the better. May take sometime to get used to it. Also, signature is no longer required. Unless one edits someone else's post, which one should not be doing.
1) I believe we are going to try to push everything in attributes and remove rowspan.
2) I think color coding with in-line html is going to be messy.
So fancy!
- I'm not against rowspan itself. I'm against rowspans for things that never change (like how much SP something costs). Even for 2nd Awakening with it's 500 initial and 200 afterwards scheme, you can better express it in the attributes section.
- I think mentioning the type of damage is a good idea (like The Void is dark element, but only the smash of the floor of Hammer of Repentance is light damage). This should not on the skill table itself.
I'm currently thinking of how I want to handle colouring things like item rarity, or the elements across the wiki (probably something like <font/span class="Dark">). A big problem is that all the colours chosen are for viewing on a dark background (which doesn't makes sense on the default white wiki) so I've sortof just been collecting colours before I implement anything. Semantic wiki (so many nifty things!) has been taking up more of my spare time outside of job hunting.
Ok. One downside to using this thread box is that you don't get emails for updates (at least I haven't). The signature happens automatically too, so no changing that.
- My original question was actually the same as the first topic at the top of the pace, just noticed. Will try and keep static things in attributes, since I agree with the sentiment that some tables are wide enough with all they have going on without the extra clutter.
- Regarding the colors thing, it's just a suggestion, so if it doesn't work out it's fine. Honestly I think the simplistic statement of if the hits do Physical/Magical damage in Attributes works just fine. @Everspace: Since it sounds like you've been looking into it though, you've probably come across this stuff already but in case you haven't, a quick google search brings up http://www.tedmontgomery.com/tutorial/clrnmsWH.html. And tangentially you can use always use Paletton and/or Adobe Kuler to find similar colors and find variations that might work better.
That can be solved. It's going to be in your Preferences, under "user profile" tab. Unfortunately, we also have this "new messages" button on the very top. That also tell you all the threads you have been watching. [Example].
I like to think of it as "The Skill Growth table is only for things that grow or change with the skill".
The biggest problem is Common, Unique, and Light attributes since they're all quite bright.
