Timeline Extension

Fragment of a discussion from User talk:Dfoplayer

The site admin recommends we try to use normal mediawiki code, as this extension for one page might be overkill.

If you can find a template for timelines, that would be nice. I will also search for one.

Sounds good. If anything, we can always default to a color coded table.

Can you create a very simple image from MS paint or whatever image editor so I can see what you are trying to accomplish? Then upload to imgur or some other image hosting site?

Two possible templates could be horizontal or vertical.

Example for horizontal under "Modern_rules". Taxation in the United Kingdom

Example for vertical on the far right under "Key events in the Cambrian". Cambrian

Thanks for your reply. I hadn't much luck on finding many variations for timelines on my end, mostly tables and lists.

After reviewing the two, I'm heavily in favor with the horizontal one. For some reason, the Wiki is preventing me from posting links here... Anyway it looks very similar to the horizontal one, but with slight variations.

I plan to list out event links along with their dates like so: "A.Y. YYYY EventNameLink" with blocks spanning their approximate duration. If it is necessary, the events could be color coded (text or highlighted) for distinguish-ability depending on the location: Pandemonium (Terra), Arad Continent, or Empyrean. Individual events would have lines that point to somewhere in the timeline.

The information would span into two timelines, one for prior events and the other for contemporary events. This is to prevent the data from being too crowded toward the right end.

The horizontal would be best then.

The following wiktext should allow linking; I can not see why it would not work for you
