Lore
Character Biography:
Female/Age 70.
A renowned Nen Master from Suju and one of the seven founders of the Grim Seekers. She is called 'the White Flower' due to being well-known for her blossoming white nen flowers. In the past, during the Screaming Cavern Incident, she coincidentally embraced the spirit of Sirocco while on her way to the Screaming Cavern through the Red Forest on the border between Suju and Elvenguard.
Afterwards, she witnessed the Prophecy of the Apocalypse from Sirocco's memory, and was drawn to six other individuals, and together they established the Grim Seeker organization.
After its establishment, she held the position of archpriestess, and serves as the second-in-command under the archpriest, Prophet Ezra.
With a great personality and soft charisma, she highly respected among the seven founders of the Grim Seekers.
Additionally, she is an important figure who receives high praise from the Grim Seeker followers, and when she headed toward Los Chest for the sake of the mission, many followers volunteered to follow suit.
Her star pupil is Awakened Wujo. [1]
Conversation between Mandarin & Rosenberg:
"... So, I'd like to ask you two to take care of the Dark Side branch."
It was the Prophet who spoke, but Mandarin turned toward Rosenberg, examining the look on his face.
The Prophet was asking them to kill themselves for the sake of their plans.
Rosenberg just stood there, looking as expressionless as always."Are you ready, Rosenberg?"
Mandarin tried to sound playful when she asked.
She'd lived long enough and wasn't really afraid of dying, but..."I'm not afraid to die, but it's a shame that I won't be able to see the new world after the advent of Extinction."
Rosenberg's calm voice impressed Mandarin.
The snotty little kid had grown into this man.The Prophet gazed into space and stayed quiet for a while, unable to find words to say.
"Thank you. Your sacrifices will save a great many lives."
Mandarin clenched her hands under her robe,
promising to herself again that she would do everything in her power for the success of the Ritual. [2]
History
As an Enemy
Mandarin makes her appearance as the end boss in Basement of Pain. She will fight with her own variations of different Nen skills.
Move Set
- Fan Slap: At close range, Mandarin performs a triple combo by swinging with her fan three times along with creating afterimages of herself dealing respectable damage per hit.
- Scattering Nen Flowers: Mandarin regardless of either side of the room she's in starts launching out 6 Nen Petals going in a down to upwards direction.
- Exploding Nen Shot: A variation of Energy Shield where she'll fire out a nearly identical projectile similar to that of Energy Release: Swift which splits the energy sequentially by 3 beads spinning around, then 6, and 9 right before exploding.
- Nen Lion Summon: Using a variation of Male Nen's First Awakening Lion of Suju, she'll summons two Nen Lions to appear from both left and right sides of the room to have them launch out a Lion's Roar before fading away.
- Nen Flower: Functioning like Female Nen Master's skill, Mandarin moves to the right and starts to twirl towards the left side as she plants four Nen Flower buds on the ground that instantly bloom. Then she will come back over to the right side and detonates each flower one by one each.
- Shield Rush: Identical to Isys's The post-war world is upon us! Mandarin hops over to the right forming a Nen Guard around herself as she begins to rush at the player. There are two outcomes to this pattern -- If the player manages to destroy Mandarin's shield, it will break and she'll enter a mini-groggy state for a few seconds. Choosing not to break the shield has her drop down in the middle and launches a shock wave on both sides of the ground except reaching towards it's near edge.
- Berserk
- Heavenly Wrath of a Hundred Flowers: Mandarin teleports to the middle and gets into a meditation posture as she levitates in the air with three Nen marbles slowly spinning around her, then Mandarin sends out two light beams forward from left to right, next she will gather up energy to stop for a few seconds and fires out two large Nen waves on both sides. After this is done, she'll enter her groggy state for 15 seconds while recovering power from the altar.
Strategy
- While not an extremely difficult boss fight, Mandarin is very formidable with various attack patterns and constant movement despite the room's narrow path during her fight.
- Unlike Ash Rosenberg in his Kazan-Possessed form, Mandarin is vulnerable to holds and lacks immunity to them aside from certain patterns.
- Once she begins Nen Lion Summon, stay in the middle and move away from the radius of Lion's Roar from either side.
- Whenever she begins to perform Scattering Nen Flowers or Exploding Nen Shot respectively, stay behind her at whichever side she's at and feel free to attack. While the former can be easily avoided by jumping over the petals through open gaps, the latter can be troublesome if you come within' contact of that projectile's range as those Nen beads that split and explode can deal lethal damage enough to be killed.
- Time your jumps during Nen Flower when Mandarin goes from left to right as long as you stay out of the flower's detonation radius. Classes that don't have enough jump height can use Leap to avoid being knocked down.
- Be careful not to come in close contact with Mandarin's shield during Shield Rush this causes hit stun and cancels out skills with the exception of those can use invincibility frames. Destroying the shield however leave her open to counter damage so try to take advantage of that.
- For Heavenly Wrath of a Hundred Flowers
- As she prepares this pattern, this can push back players despite being far away so try not to use any skills during this.
- Stay in the middle and jump over the marbles as those can cause knockback that makes you or party members vulnerable to being hit by the light beams or waves as those inflict a heavy amount of multi-hit damage which is a problem for classes with lower defenses.
- If you have a class that has a dash or teleport-related skill, this can be useful avoiding the final attack if they grant invincibility frames.

Trivia
- Her name is likely derived from the same citrus tree fruit.
- Mandarin's character and design are inspired by the live-action adaption of Dr.Strange's The Ancient One or Sorcerer Supreme.
- Her fighting techniques are very similar to that of Toki's from Fist of the North Star as the Heavenly Wrath of a Hundred Flowers heavily resembles his Hokuto Ujo Hagan Ken.
- In the DFOG version, her name is mistranslated as the 'Mandarin of a Hundred Flowers'. In the Korean version, her name is '백화 만다린' (baekhwa mandarin) which can also mean 'Mandarin, the White Flower'. This mistranslation is most likely due to a context issue as '백화' can translate to (百花) 'hundred flowers' or (白花) 'white flower' in Korean.
- In her character biography, it claims she gained her moniker due to her "하얀 넨화를 피우는 것으로" which translates to 'blossoming white nen flowers'.
