Sisley's Cut-In

Lore

ARAD TIMES Lore:

The researchers trembled in fear.
It was the first time that the kind, gentle Hilder became this angry.
They thought Hilder's kindness was their privilege as future talents to lead Pandemonium.
It was their excessive ego. They found their stupidity over grievances.
Most of Devil Girl's researchers left the laboratories with soul-crushing regret.
But there were few who did not give up. Among those was Sisley.
Once the obnoxious girl and the research materials disappeared, Hilder commanded that, upon the discovery of White Rust Sisley, she be brought back immediately.
But Sisley never showed herself before Hilder ever again.
Time passed, and once Hilder's attention moved to the beginning of Luke's movement, tales of the name Sisley began to spring up in the direction of the Kashipa.

Operation: Hope Lore:

To many people's surprise, the leader of Kashipa's mid-ranking looting unit, Rust, is an ordinary-looking girl with a rabbit doll in her arms.
Once a member of the Devil Girls, the group of Pandemonium's most troubled teenagers, Sisley decided that she'd dedicate her life to homunculus research.
Even when she had to take refuge with Kashipa to avoid Hilder's wrath, she smiled at the prospect of being able to continue her research.
So much time has passed that even her most persistent pursuer wouldn't recognize her anymore, but her determination is as strong as ever.

Pandemonium War Lore:

Having barely escaped, Sisley was angry. She'd lost the precious results of her research that took her a long time. She spent countless hours hiding in a corner to create what she thought were the ultimate results. But her happiness didn't last long. In the Bronx where she didn't want to go, she met him and he burned her work!

I can't stop now. I must not stop now. I broke the rules for the ultimate truth. For that, I even sacrificed everything—even myself! If I stop now, my life will have been wasted. This time, I must create something flawless. I'll break even the greatest taboo to discover greater truths.

I'll need so many things to do that. First... Yes, I need that thing that got away. Children, let's go. It's time to retrieve the "material."

Sisley's Children

Whee, whee, ho! Whee, ho! Whee, whee, ho! Don't worry about failing. Don't let the clattering stop. Shall we modify the prim cat? Let's hang the big snowman! Stick a knife into the blazing pumpkin, and sew up the shiny worm. Don't be afraid. We've done this before. Everyone, join, say goodbye to our foes! Whee, whee, ho! Whee, ho! Whee, whee, ho!

History

Neople-logo.png This part of the current article contains spoilers.

Long ago, Sisley was once a member of the Devil Girl group of the Elting Memorial which consists of Geniewiz who are also the biggest troublemakers in Pandemonium. She is very stubborn and determined of that group dedicating her work into creating Homunculi that was forbidden by Apostle Hilder. After the group was disbanded, Sisley later took refuge into Kashipa and going so far as to conceal her magic just to avoid Hilder's wrath.

During her time in the Kashipa, she continued with her research. She delved deeper into her craft and was even willing to perform experiments on herself. However, the experimentation led to disastrous consequences, resulting in her to lose her body in the process. Despite this setback, her consciousness remained in a non-corporeal form, and was able to attach itself to host bodies. From then on, Sisley's priorities changed: she must use her research to create a new "perfect" host body.

To achieve her goal, Sisley created a large number of Homunculi of similar appearance to her original body. However, none of them were able to fully harness her powers and slowly deteriorated. While she continued her research for years, it resulted in the creation of her masterpiece, Laura.

For reasons of her own, she granted Laura free will and treated her like a research assistant while teaching her about magic and the homunculi. However, after Laura discovered Sisley's true intention and ran away, Sisley became dead set upon retrieving her. But her search was cut short, having received an order from Royal Messenger Walkman.

During the events of Operation: Hope, The Rust Unit are dispatched in the Dying Forest section in Harlem's Outskirts to continue their research involving the Abyss. She fights the Adventurer and loses, but doesn't give up as she takes control of the rabbit doll while uttering out "Useless body" only to lose again, making her escape to East Harlem.

Sisley makes her return in Pandemonium War when the Adventurer & Ikki the Vikki team up to infiltrate The Academy while coming across Laura who's trying to escape from her furious creator and confronts the Adventurer due to their interference. Afterwards, Ikki drops down with her repaired MK-II Machine and attacks Sisley, making her retreat.

When revisiting the Academy, the duo confronts Sisley once more inside of her laboratory by appearing in her true form this time, assuming Laura came back and still remains ambitious on obtaining her body as she fights again before finally meeting her end. After Sisley's death, Gizel Logan would eventually steal biometric data she stored in her lab.

As an Enemy (Operation Hope)

Sisley will always be encountered as a boss only if the Dying Forest path is taken. Her Human phase will use different variations of Witch skills. Upon being defeated, she'll move into her Rabbit for' phase which is more aggressive with physical and close-range attacks.

Sisley is the end boss of The Academy now in her true, yet rather nightmarish appearance while being assisted by creepy modified versions of her familiars.

Move Set

  • Leap: Sisley can randomly leap across the map to either evade being hit or target in on players.
  • Hair Whip: She pokes one of her appendage hairs forward at someone in close range that's able to push them back.
  • Shadow Tentacles: Sisley uses her hair-like appendages that protrude the floor and rises up to a narrow range around six times and attacks a randomly targeted player, dealing moderate damage if they successfully hit more than once.
  • Lava Breath: Sisley pukes out a identical Lava Potion No. 9.png Lava Potion No. 9 pool out of her mouth and onto the floor that can linger for a few minutes, stepping into it will inflict a Burn (Status).png Burn (Status) and moderate damage.
  • Pluto Breath: Sisley shoots out a large amount of The Pluto.png Plutos in a straight line from her mouth, dealing moderate to heavy damage on contact.
  • Sisley's Children: Sisley is able to summon numerous homunculi consisting of her familiars, Jack O' Lantern, Frosty, Florae and Pluto throughout the room that must be destroyed immediately before the Absorb Sisley's kids gauge below fills. If there's any homunculi left behind, she'll absorb it and use an elemental attack as sort of a mini-berserk pattern.
    • Jack o' Lantern: Launches down a volley of fireballs below a random player.
    • Frosty: Shoots out a ice breath in a fan-shaped indicator.
    • Florae: Summons numerous lighting bolts similar to Elementalist's Lightning Strike.png Lightning Strike.
    • Pluto: Pulls in players and lifts them up in the air dealing low to moderate damage.
  • Berserk
    • Let's Play!: After 45 seconds into the fight, Sisley teleports to the middle while blending into the background as she splits the map into four purple lanes, and sends waves of teeth drill attacks into three of the four lanes a total of four times almost being identical to Hiero's Spiral Dive or Shackled Kepheros's Condemning Voices attack patterns. All party members must move and up down in the safe lane and dodge those drills. After the fourth lane, Sisley will enter her groggy state for 20 seconds.

Strategy

  • Sisley herself isn't very difficult to fight, but considered annoying due to her AoE attack patterns and constant movement around the map.
  • When casting either Lava or Pluto Breath, she can push back players who are in close range leaving them vulnerable for a few seconds. This can also be very dangerous for the former attack whenever Sisley prepares her berserk.
  • If you don't deal any damage to Sisley within' 20 seconds, she'll instantly trigger her berserk.
  • During Let's Play!:
    • If you or any party members are hit by the teeth drills underneath, blood orbs will be produced and depending on how many are laying around, Sisley can regain 3% of her HP back with each one she absorbs after her groggy phase ends so it's wise to avoid being hit by those drills and prevent the fight's duration from dragging on.
    • Sisley's Children can also appear and explode on contact if you go near them.
    • The Seraph's Edification.png Edification or Enchantress's Hot Affection.png Hot Affection is helpful for those who have slower movement speed.
    • One she is groggy, have Crusader/Enchantress to deploy their Apocalypse (Male Crusader).png Apocalypse/Crux of Victoria.png Crux of Victoria/Marionette (Enchantress).png Marionette and kill Sisley before she repeats her patterns.

Trivia

  • Sisley is a English name given to girls and a variant of Cecilia meaning Blind. It is also given to a Roman martyr regarded as a patroness of music which could make sense considering that she sings in both her lore and boss theme.
  • In the Arad Times, she was referred to as Sisle the Puppeteer, likely a mistranslation before her reveal in Operation: Hope, explaining her modified familars including possessing the rabbit doll similar to how Enchantress can do the same with Madd.
  • Her moniker, White Rust is a reference to a disease in plants caused by the oomycete Albugo candida or one of its close relatives. White rust also associates with magic experiments.
  • Sisley's true form could be inspired by Pride from Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.
  • If playing as a Witch, she'll gain extra dialogue when encountering Sisley in scenarios.
