Magicians these days are full of only theories. To survive in this rough world, magic for the purpose of fighting is what's needed.

The Battle Mage is a Mage who prefers the full-contact satisfaction of combat and attacks with close-range weapons and spells. However, being of diminutive stature, her magical powers manifest as Chasers, magical spheres infused with various elemental properties that serve as a powerful buffer between her and the relentless barrage of enemy attacks. The Battle Mage is fast, possesses superhuman fighting skills and is the only Mage with weapon mastery skills.

  • At level 50, the Battle Mage awakens as the Bellatrix. At level 75, the Bellatrix awakens as an Ashtarte.
  • Her sub-class cosmetic effect is a set of gloves.
  • Her 2nd Awakening cosmetic effect gives her gloves a glowing blue effect while she is standing still.

Becoming a Battle Mage

The Mage must first reach level 15.

  1. Talk to Blue Guardian Vetala in Silver Crown.
  2. Clear the Ringwood Underground Penitentiary.

Awakening as a Bellatrix

A long time ago, far earlier than when Pandemonium separated from the planet Terra, in a distant mythological period, it is said that the ancestors of Terra had quite a different appearance. These ancestors, who possessed physical abilities quite different from the people of Pandemonium today, used an unknown mysterious power. The most experienced amongst these practitioners were said to emit a golden ray from their bodies.

Due to their physical appearance, they were called Teana, based on the goddess of light and justice found in ancient mythological writings. Some Pandemonians dismiss the Teana to be a made up fairy tale, for the likes of children and madmen… however there are still those who maintain that one does indeed exist, and has been seen walking among us in reality. The first witness account occurred one year following the conflict between the Guardians, which was responsible for the creation of the first Battle Mage, and the Kashpa.

The fabled Teana is known to call herself Bellatrix.

As suggested in myths, this being emanates a golden ray and has incredible powers that she uses to help the weak and punish the wicked. With the discovery of this new entity, Battle Mages in Arad began to study her power, and discover the focal point of her strength: the Chaser. They began to understand the power of the Chaser, and realize how it can be better utilized to harness a more ultimate power. An occult belief began to spread, a belief that one who discovers the ultimate truth will harness the power of Teana and become as powerful as Bellatrix.

Will they become as powerful as the golden goddess of myth? The Battle Mages in Arad have become filled with anticipation…

“With this power... I will return peace to Pandemonium!”

- Niu the Chaser to Pi, her companion.

The Battle Mage must first reach level 50.

  1. Talk to Sharan in Underfoot Hall.
  2. Collect 10 White Cubes, 10 Red Cubes, 100 Superior Hardeners, and 100 Superior Irons.
  3. Clear the 30th floor of the Tower of the Dead.
  4. Obtain 10 Powerful Essences from APCs in Tower of the Dead or Tower of Illusion.
  5. Collect 60 Chaos Stone Debris, 120 Seals of Emperor Heim, and 80 Seals of Empress Skardi.

2nd Awakening as an Ashtarte

What are chasers? What is a Bellatrix?

To understand these, we must look back deep into the forgotten legend - a legend where even the "Genesis of Terra" didn't record.

When Terra was still a whole in ancient times, where magic has not been discovered, using advance scientific knowledge as base, twelve "Bellatrix" had been created.

Clad in a golden aura, the Bellatrix had the knowledge of a Sage and the strength of a War God. Their shining image was worshipped by all the Terrans, and all wanted to become an existence similar to a Bellatrix.

This admiration had greatly affected the scientists of Terra as well; they began to research on how to grant humans strength similar to a Bellatrix.

Simply speaking, if we inserted the unknown power that changed the human into a Bellatrix, then it is possible to "Bellatrixfy" a human.

But the unknown power that created the Bellatrix can no longer be found. With no other choice, the scientists of Terra were forced to use a different, weaker kind of power, called "Elements".

The Elements themselves do not contain much power, but if condensed and mixed with each other, they can become a power almost equal to the unknown power. Believing that this energy could bring prosperity to Terra, they tirelessly researched it.

At the end, they succeeded. Those inserted with the Elements obtained the same golden aura as the Bellatrix.

But perhaps due to not fully understanding how the elements work, the burden on the human body was too great, the power of the elements had gone berserk inside their bodies, and all the prototypes have died.

This is the origin of the chasers, discovery of the elements and the birth of the Bellatrix.

But why mention something so boring of the past? There's a reason of course. A power that is more condensed than Chasers...the power that created the Bellatrix has reappeared.

Some say that its reappearance is due to the fact of the post Cataclysm that occurred in Arad, but some deny it. But that isn't important anymore; in front of this mysterious power, knowing where it came from is pointless.

The evil and darkness that seeps out from this power is to be feared, but at the same time, the will to obtain stronger power has taken control over my entire body, and an excitement I had never felted before caused my whole body to shiver.

Can I obtain this power and claim it as my own?

Failure or success doesn't matter anymore. It is because of the thrill of this challenge that I will abandon everything and risk it.

-From an autobiography of an unknown Bellatrix

The Bellatrix must reach first reach level 75.

  1. Talk to Sharan in Underfoot Hall.
  2. Enter the Black Dragon Tournament and obtain 45 Dark Energies from the APC's.

Battle Mage Basics

Standard Attacks

When a Mage becomes a Battle Mage, she gains more aptitude for melee combat. Thus she adopts an entirely different string of attacks based on various skills.

  • The first attack resembles Dragon Fang and has the ability to deal a significantly greater amount of damage than an average attack.
  • The second attack follows the Palm Blast motion and shoots the mage forward.
  • The third and final attack in the sequence is the same motion as Full Swing. This has a large range and easily hits multiple enemies.

Holding the direction opposite the way the character is facing will keep her stationary through out the normal string of attacks. Holding the direction which the character is facing will greatly increase the amount of ground covered.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • Jump power is lowered so she will not jump as high. However, jump speed is increased.
  • When a Battle Mage misses with a dash attack, she will no longer fall down.
  • Battle Mages have more defense compared to other Mage jobs because of their Leather Armor Mastery and Mana Shield.
  • Battle Mages use balls of magic energy called chasers to complement their physical attacks.
    • Larger chasers do higher damage and have a larger splash radius. A higher combo count will allow larger chasers to be generated.
    • Max number of chasers can be increased with Chaser Upgrade
  • Battle Mages will have to be aware of the play style difference between partying and soloing. Constantly moving and juggling enemies may not be the best idea in every party situation.

Trivia

  • Battle Mages' first attack in the normal sequence can deal 8 to 10 times its regular damage at a very low chance. Likely an intended feature, it is speculated to be an homage to the Wizard from D&D.
  • The weapon that the Battle Mage has in the above image is called the Demon Trooper spear, the Chronicle 1 spear.
